Why do you always insist on trying to test my French? I have a near-native accent, so I don't know what you think this is going to show, besides the (already well-known) fact that I'm good at French. Also, this test is ridiculously easy, because it's /nʌ.θɪŋ mɔː kɒm.plɪ.keɪ.tɪd ðæn tɹæn.skraɪ.bɪŋ ɪŋ.glɪʃ laɪk ðɪs/. If you gave me a recording of a native speaker pronouncing all of those words in context, then you'd be giving me a challenge.

That's the problem. The only things me or Astraios have got "wrong" are ones that are about as nitpicky as using the wrong unrounded low vowel in bath.Viktor77 wrote:I want well-enunciated standard Parisian French.

Parisian french is horrible. I much preferred the southern accent of perpignan of cerbere.

I'm certain he has his own apartment, Astraios, so you don't have to worry about mother hearing things.

I don't live with her now, I was only back for two weeks. I can be as noisy as I like now (and I usually be noisier than I need to on purpose, just to get revenge on my housemates).

Besides, the habit of putting your hand over... no that's creepy and rapey and I should just stop there.Shm Jay wrote:I'm certain he has his own apartment, Astraios, so you don't have to worry about mother hearing things.

If I stop posting out of the blue it probably is because my computer and the board won't cooperate and let me log in.!

Think of people from London saying /bɑːθ/ and people from an American or Canadian city saying [baθ] or [bæθ]. That's about the difference between [esɥije] and [ɛsɥije], except that this is even more picky. Also, this is wrong:Lyra wrote:What.... what is that!?

because overall syllable structure is important too with the word mettre [mɛtʁə ~ mɛtʀ̥ə ~ mɛtrə ~ mɛtʁ ~ mɛtʀ̥ ~ mɛtr ~ mɛt, -ɛj-], i.e. still [mɛ-] (besides variations like [esɥije, ɛ-], messeoir [meswaːʁ ~ mɛswaːʁ, -ʀ, -r]).Viktor77 wrote:Also it is [e.sɥi.je], remember [e] when before two of the same consonants.

You can always imagine the rest. one hand over the mouth, the other holding both the other person's hands against the wall, the special victims unit cops stacking up at the door.Astraios wrote:Stopping there just makes it sound even more appealing.Dewrad wrote:Besides, the habit of putting your hand over... no that's creepy and rapey and I should just stop there.
