[admittedly, I started this quote, but the funny part was Cev so I don't think it's too crass to include it here.]

<Whimemsz> can I just note that I automatically dislike any company or organization that openly and unabashedly displays those little twitter and facebook logos on signs and promotional material and shit
<Whimemsz> or invites me to "check [them] out" on facebook or twitter
<Cev> What I always like is how they think we're actually gonna do that
<Cev> "Oh man I got a Facebook. Who should I add? Oh, I know.. the local orthodontist company!"

That's quite an offensive thing to quote just FYI.

Calling someone inbred is quite a severe insult over here. I'd save it's right up there with calling someone a c***bag.

and cuntbag is a strong insult? I thought strong insults for the Gringo people were like nigger, or cracker, or cockmuncher, you know, stuff related to the belonging to race and minority membership. cuntbag sounds so mild!

drydic: par for the course doesn't mean desirable. he might have the perfectly valid belief that the internet needs less insults and obscenities.

"Cunt" is a lot stronger in American English than in other varieties, and much strong than its literal equivalent in other languages. "Cockmuncher" sounds almost charming to me by comparison.

Well, I thought inbred was referencing me, that's why I took offense haha. I'm not British, I don't know if Sal will take offense, but where I'm from calling someone inbred is a severe insult that could start a fight.

Cracker isn't an insult, cracker is a word white people use, and some black people, to make themselves feel special about their race or God knows why, but it's not really an insult. I've never heard cockmuncher in fact I read it as coochmuncher at first, which doesn't sound that bad a thing to be for straight men. Nigger is only offensive to black people when said by white people. Otherwise black people use nigger like white people use cracker. Cunt and cuntbag are very offensive insults here though, I'd argue cunt (and its variations) is one of the most insulting words one can say.

Jesus God, Viktor, stop talking already. "Cracker" is absolutely an insult. If you think otherwise, then by all means fling it about next time you descend below the Mason-Dixon line. Just be sure to film the results so I can watch.

Linguoboy, you know I value your opinion, but we speak from our experiences, correct? And in my experiences I have never heard cracker used as an insult. I don't often descend below the Mason-Dixon line and if you noticed I clearly made sure it was noted I was referring to my Michigan dialect and not some Southern dialect. My friends used to call each other cracker all the time, and I've had black friends call me a cracker, and besides it being a bizarre word, it never insulted anyone.

I hate it when I end up defending Viktor Cracker... sigh
I'd suggest you grow a fucking skin instead, or at least as well, I mean, there's a difference between judgment of speech acts and censorship. Free speech, as I understand it, protects free comments of free people on another's free speech, and you moaning and crying censorship at anyone who suggests you or someone else is being impolite, inappropriate, unpleasant or just a twat by saying this or that, whether he's right or not, mind you, does sound much more like censorship than the actual act of saying "yo, dude, that's kind of insulting".

okay, then, viktor, I shall affectionately call you cracker from now on. somehow it feels fitting

I don't particularly like it only because it makes me think of saltine crackers, but sure, if you really want to go ahead, I'm not offended.
