The coping thread

If I stop posting out of the blue it probably is because my computer and the board won't cooperate and let me log in.!
Re: The coping thread
This. I like taking walks as well, but driving around for hours (particularly at night, and in a long uninterrupted stretch, like an old swamp road or an interstate) either by myself or with a friend who doesn't mind silence punctuated by occasional chit-chat really seems to calm my nerves.Torco wrote:Driving. not rush hour driving, but road driving, often helps me feel better. It makes me feel like the whole world is open and out there, waiting, and that perspective makes whatever bothers me seem less terrible.
As for other methods, it depends on what I'm dealing with. If the cause of the stress is outside of my direct social circle (e.g. family, school, etc), as it usually is, then I'll go hang out with my girlfriend to calm my nerves. Given that it usually has to do with my family, sometimes I'll drink to untense my mind a bit.
When the stress is socially based, I generally feel a lot more hopeless, so I try to work through the stress logically. If that fails, I usually call my mom (who lives several states away) and pour my thoughts there. Otherwise, if it's more transient, I can usually just listen to music or watch something light to keep my mind off it until I feel better.

Listening to heavy, industrial, black, death, symphonic death, technical death, symphonic technical death metal etc. is also good when I'm blue.

Drinking alone and crying.
As a 28 year old single female, I feel like a fucking stereotype.

25 years and I still drink alone
and I still cry
I'd love to be able to do both at the same time, but I can't for whatever reason.
also, as of late, literature has been helping me deal with bullshit... and talking to myself.
hugs to jlyne... and a grabbing of the ass, if she so wishes.

It'd be nice if someone, I dunno, hugged me or something once instead of going straight for the tits and ass, but that is too lofty a goal for someone such as me.
So grab away.
Yup.

When possible, I procrastinate it. Pretend it's not going to happen. Right up until it does, at which point things sort of crash, and I'm so busy trying to get through it all that I don't suffer.Torco wrote:So how do you deal with suffering?

Hug females. Regardless of sexual orientation, girls are less grabby. Hug straight females, and no worries about grabbing at all.jlyne wrote:I'm ok with an ass grab.

None of the girls I know are touchy-feely, at least not with me. Besides, I don't talk about my shit with people offline, with the exception of one person, and he's not a hugger (except when we're shitfaced).Jashan wrote: Hug females. Damn, you, google... reading chat conversations with one's ex is like cheap red wine: it's delicious, but it starts making you feel like shit after a while.

When I can, I walk away. A need for nicotine is always a good excuse.
When I can't ... I'll either turn hyper-professional and calm, or I'll turn sarcastic.
I rarely turn violent, though I've fisted my fair share of walls and light switches over the years ...

I was brought up with guns. Cat and/or dog stroking is a good rage sink.

Those cats are typically not what is referred to by the term cat, unqualified, in English.
