There's no word in the text where dissimilation of /l:/ would be applicable -- one of the many missing shibboleths in the text they're using. (Edit: my bad, they have all in there) There's gjelde, which most Norwegians pronounce /l:/, but the dissimilation of /l:/ happened at an earlier time than /ld/ > /l:/. In any case, they don't seem to have an informant from the /l:/ > /d:/ area, with the possible exception of this woman.

As for [ʕ], I think it's more likely to be a pharyngealized something-or-other than a straight up pharyngeal. Phonetics isn't my strongest suit though.

You got me thinking. My /l:/ (and /l/) is also quite weird when following /A O/. What do you think this sounds like? http://yourlisten.com/channel/content/70028/All-alle I've always thought it's quite similar to the English coda /l/.

Sounds like a regular ell from your area (Oslo, right?). Io is probably right about which IPA character to use.

I don't think so, cause there's no coronal contact at all, and also I think it's slightly pharyngealized. It does sound almost identical to how I would pronounce [ɫ], though.

Yeah, I don't think there's anything unusual about it compared to other people in my area. (I'm originally from further south in the Oslo fjord area, although I've been living in Oslo for over five years now.)


To get back to Io's earlier comment, which part exactly of the audio sampled you linked did you think sounded like [ʕ]?

Also I made a slight mistake due to misremembering some etymologies at 5am in the morning, Gotland doesn't have any /d:/ from /l:/, so I've corrected that.

Most of his [R]s, yeah OK maybe they're really [ʁˤ] but the [ˤ] component is quite strong.

Dåm som hade byggt husen på gården måste ha blivi firade, före va verklien en vacker syn å serom vissa sa att de likna himmelrike. Dåre va kväll, å solen (elle månen å stjärnorna) sken pårom vita taken undra man nästan omre kunde va på rikti eller om man ba blev full av å seren. Nä vi va på byns strand såg vi ofta båtar ute på sjön. Ibland köpte min far äpplen åten tanklöse kaptenen på en av båtarna, han gav förstås mej også. Karn rökte pipa å hade en lös tand efter atten stora fisken han fånga slagi till honom me sin fena, de va no tur a han inte bråka me en älj. I stridens hetta fanns de inte en enda droppe vatten i skeppe. Men de va väl ändå fisken som gjorde sårom båda ble vänner, såren va en go fisk.
