Can't these be analyzed as initial or secondary stress? How about some longer words, with at least five syllables? (And no, those of you with peanuts-for-throwing, I don't mean antidisestablishmentarianism and floccinaucinihilipilification, but rather words that people seriously use.)

As an American, I suggest that the American pronunciation is "ad." Ádvertisement sounds just as wrong as advértisement. (Though ádvertising is fine, somehow) Likewise, the American stress pattern for "television" is "tée-vée."

I know that Russian is very particular with where stress is placed, because stress can change the meaning of a word. Like rebel and rebel(the noun and verb).

How about "the largest even number of syllables possible before the first vowel preceding the penultimate consonant"? I know it's not that accurate, and it probably has thousands of exceptions, but...
