Great! I'll drop those wh haven't done it yet a line politely reminding them and asking if they want to continue.

Also we should set other deadlines for people starting late. Maybe 4 days. If we don't get enough people, we'll probably have to double up on territories/cultures

Could anyone direct me on an efficient way to make a proto-culture? I'm getting stuck on that, as I'm not sure where to start.

efficient is relative

the fast way is to define the traditionally anthropology-friendly big chunks of the culture: come up with a religion, general family structure, mating habits, mythology, means of production, ownership patterns, and attitudes towards a few relevant things like life, death, birth, alterity and the meaning of life. To that add a material culture like houses, tools, art and pottery, and you've suddenly got a half-cooked culture ready to go.

Tho' that still needs to finish coction; that is thinking how it all comes together, and how it interacts with psychology, economy, class structure, demography, blahblahblahblah

This is entirely theoretical, of course... I've never produced a culture with the aforementioned level of detail.

Ah, sorry for my inactivity. >_> My computer was recently attacked by a wonderful virus, and only the school computers (which can't display the YUCOP page) worked.

I'll need a name for my people but I can't make up a good one. Making up names for different tribes is easy, but for my whole people? Not so. Can anyone throw me some suggestions? I'll give you some basic phonowhatever of what I have so far.

Vowels:
short: /a i u @ a_~ i_~ u_~ @_~/
long: /a: i: u: a:_~ i:_~ u:_~/

Consonants:
plosives: /p b t d k g/
nasals: /m n/
fricatives: /f v s z S Z h/
sonorants: /w 4 l j/

Syllable Structure:

(C)V(C)

Closed syllables are rare and do not occur word-finally.

That's pretty much it. Have fun.

Oh no, it was this really nice one called Antivirus Action. It's probably still there, but I keep a task manager open at all times, ever vigilant for random process names.

...You could always throw words together. I uncreatively do this almost every time. EG: For this project, my collective world/people are the Sitapun-Nokaga, which is basically- si land, ta savanna, pun jungle, no people, kaga many, great. This is shortened to Sino.

TL;DR Use bits of epic words.

Caron is simply "(the) people", if you're feeling particularly unimaginative you can just do that.

That's pretty much what I had in mind, but whenever I make a word it doesn't feel right. Then I asked for help here.

And BTW, Torco. Only that second word is allowed(but the /e/ should be /@/). The first one ends in a consonant, which is a no no. The last one has /aj/ in it which I will interpret as a diphthong rather than a VC syllable. I don't allow diphthongs for my language(yet).

Did some thinking, and decided to settle with /ja:ziZ@/. How would this be spelled?

How about an animate noun derived from, say, river, originally denoting a certain tribe by a great river, or so? Literally something like "riverers" or "riverlings" (and you don't necessarily have to use a river for this; that's just an example).

Which reminds me... as long as they make some kind of sense, can I add a river or such, or is that really uncommon in savannas and jungles?

Yes, you can add rivers, look at one of the grayscale height maps (the first is on page 2) to make sure the rivers are believable. (as in, they don't flow uphill.)
