Some questions: What about the moon(s)? Do we even have one? If so, how many? How big? How long do they take to orbit the planet? What do they look like?
How long is the day? The year?
What sort of sun? Similar to our sun?

Zompist reccomends Neil Commins' What if the Moon didn't Exist. I don't have a copy, and unless anyone else does I think it would be too much work to for anything other than one moon about the size of Luna

I think we should have YUCOPia the same size as Earth, with a moon the same as ours, and a sun and solar system similar to ours, if not the same.

If you can bear with my agonizing update pace, I'd like to continue. :)
But, it will be a bit before I can get everything ready. The whole one-hundred languages thing made me panic, so I basically made 7 speedlangs I hate.
So! Is anybody willing to trade with the Sino? I can't decide on whether their first symbols will be things like "God" and "Worship" or "Owner" and "Void".

So it's a kind of "What if Earth had been shaped like this?" scenario? Coolness.

Here are the results of running a solar system generator, searching for Earth-like planets around a sun-like star, and then looking though those to find ones roughly the same size as Earth. For 1000 runs, 7 suitable systems were found, also provided is a version showing our solar system.

http://fast-times.eldacur.com/cgi-bin/S ... &SVG=off#6
Slightly warmer and larger than Earth, slightly thicker atmosphere. Many planets.

Slightly warmer and larger than Earth, moderately thicker atmosphere.

Slightly cooler and larger than Earth, slightly thicker atmosphere.

http://www.eldacur.com/~brons/NerdCorne ... ol-16.html
Our solar system, as a comparison.

I like the first one simply due to all the planets (19 of them). Most of them are pretty small... there's a gas "giant" barely more massive than Earth...

This simulator doesn't do moons (well, actually it does, but it does so very badly) so an Earthlike moon would probably be the easiest to do. It does have axial tilt and day length and stuff, but we could probably just ignore those details and decide our own.

If anyone wants to vote on one of these systems, or if everyone just wants to do an Earth that looks different, it doesn't matter to me.

Ebba Leaci, you're awesome. :D

I'd vote for any of the warmer planets, because the map seems to have a bigger proportion of warm climates than cold.

Cool menu, Ebba, but a lot of those factors are independent, so we aren't limited to those 7 systems. I still like this one

http://fast-times.eldacur.com/cgi-bin/S ... &SVG=off#3

Because it has an iceball right next to it, which should glow beautifully, and also might hold life as well. Moon-wise, I vote we have ourselves a big moon, but not luna big... luna is actually pretty huge. I figure something like half of luna that is also closer might have a similar effect -which I believe is overrated, but still- at surface level.

Why do most of these have 16-hour days? no matter, I like 16-hour days. I'd enjoy some funk in the axial tilt department, like 16° for real mild seasons, or I dunno, 30° for dramatic ones.

Also, what happened with the Sino ?

30 is too close to 24. I'd go with either short days [~16] or long ones [~36]

M and G are star classifications. All of the stars are pretty much identical to our own sun, so G.

Well, if we are having a slightly different earth, that would call for making new plants, if not new animals as well.

The normal classifications, from hottest to coolest:
O, B, A, F, G, K, M

G is the classification that our sun is in.
G, K, and maybe F are probably the only types of stars where habitable planets could be found. Any stars larger and hotter would die too quickly for life to evolve far enough to amount to anything, if it even gets started to begin with. M stars could also possibly have planets with life, though they would likely be tidally locked to the parent star. (unless they were moons of a gas giant, in which case they would be tidally locked to the gas giant)

And the plants and animals can be the same, pretty much. People could make some new plants or animals if they want, but doing that for the entire planet would be too much work.

What if we're a moon?

We could orbit a Jovian or a Water.

But as we still have humans and such, these new plants and animals should still be related to us. I made a new species of marsupials(Macropodidae, to be specific) adapted for my cold climate. Creating a new family might be fun, but creating a new suborder or order might be a bit too challenging. If someone has the balls to attempt a new phylum or even kingdom they might not have time for their own people.

How would that affect our world? Would orbit be stable? What about the axial tilt? Climate changes?

There probably wouldn't be much axial tilt if we were a moon of another planet, but there is no reason why the orbit wouldn't be stable. Climate shouldn't be majorly affected by this, aside from the lack of seasons. (unless the parent plant's orbit was eccentric.) A giant "moon" in the sky would affect our people's beliefs, though.
