Magic in non-Cadhinorian cultures

Questions or discussions about Almea or Verduria-- also the Incatena. Also good for postings in Almean languages.

Magic in non-Cadhinorian cultures

Post by Chengjiang »

Hey, Zomp, I was wondering:

I notice that we, as your readers, don't really know much about the state of magic use outside of Eretald. You've given us some documentation on mages from Verdurian and other Caďinorian cultures, but other than that the only mention of magic in other areas I can think of off the top of my head is a one-sentence reference to a Dhekhnami sorceror. So I became curious, and I'd like to know: How do the other major civilizations of Ereláe compare to the descendants of Caďinas as regards magic use? I realize it's not quite like other technologies because it involves winning the favor of supernatural beings rather than learning how to harness natural forces, but are there any notable differences in its implementation or sophistication from region to region? I would guess the Verdurians and their allies to have become most sophisticated at magic, since they seem to have done that with most things, but if so where is magic elsewhere?

Sorry if that's a lot to handle, but I really would like to know.

Actually, come to think of it, I have one more question: Will we, your audience, ever know more about the vyožĭ than we currently do?

EDIT: The thread title threw up when I fed it a <ď>, so I had to clean up the mess.

Mark has said somewhere that Xurno has its own long tradition of magic use, but that the Xurnese interpretation of their magic and its nature is quite different from the Cadhinorian tradition; unfortunately, so far that's all we know...

Actually there's a section on Axunemi magic on the Meshaism page:

As for the vyozhi, I can't add much for now. They're essentially the same as the Cuzeian einalandaue, however, so read the first few chapters of the Count of Years if you haven't.

(After looking over stuff I carelessly neglected) Oh, OK, that makes sense. Thanks for pointing that out.

I would like to add my thanks to Mark as well, for pointing those passages out; the material on Almea (Almeiana?) currently on line contains the answers to many questions already, if one knows where to find it...
