Mark,
Just wandering is Babblers close to being published (or is it almost done?)
And just wandering about Axunashin or Xurnese when do you think they'll be done? (or the Almeopedia?)
Thanks,
Some questions for Mark

Re: Some questions for Mark
Babblers has a complete manuscript; Mark has been shopping around for publishers for a little while but so far has not found any that are keen.CountJordan wrote:Mark,

Both of these as I understand it are "long-term" projects that don't really have a set due-date. Certainly the Almeopedia will not be finished for a long while, and Mark has decided to finish the material on Xurnese religion first before getting back to the languages. Of course, he does have things to do other than conworlding (I have sympathy for him, since I haven't managed to do anything in months - but then again my stuff isn't exactly as in-demand), so a fixed due date probably doesn't really serve any purpose. And just wandering about Axunashin or Xurnese when do you think they'll be done? (or the Almeopedia?)

Re: Some questions for Mark
It's a book which was written by Mark, usually under the slightly longer title In the Land of Babblers, which is a translation of a Cu?zi work with the full title A defense before the judges of my conduct which was in the land of babblers, about a Cuzei courtier sent on some sort of diplomatic mission to a rural Cadhinorian province--details on the plot are sketchy, for various publishing reasons.Maknas wrote:What's Babblers?
Re: Some questions for Mark
In the Land of Babblers is an unpublished novel Mark has written, set in Almea in the time of ancient Cuezi. A short description of the novel and a brief excerpt can be found in the Secret History of Almea, and another brief excerpt in Cuezi and English can be found here, in the Cuezi grammar (scroll down a bit). Mention of Babblers can also be found in the entry for the year 287 in the Historical Atlas of Almea, in the descriptions of Cuezi monotheism and Cadhinorian paganism the religion section of Virtual Verduria, and in a few previous threads on this board.Maknas wrote:What's Babblers?
Personally, I'm looking forward to picking up the paperback edition.

I eagerly await the day when I can stroll over to Barnes and Noble, grab a cappuccino and maybe a scone, then wander over and pick up a copy of Babblers and, a few aisles over, find a new, crisp row of Gods of Daszeria awaiting my purchase.Glenn Kempf wrote:Personally, I'm looking forward to picking up the paperback edition.

Another story by Mark, also set in Almea. While Mark's first novel (starring Abend Monteneon--it's also mentioned in the Secret History) was set in Verduria in the "present day," and Babblers takes place in ancient times, the short story "Effect/Countereffect" is set in Zeir (later a province of Verduria) in the medieval period, as Mark mentions in the footnote--more than two thousand years after the time of Beretos in Babblers, but still several centuries before the present day.CountJordan wrote:Just wandering the story under Effect/counterefect What is that?
Mark has written "Effect/Countereffect" in full in both English and Verdurian, which I personally find pretty impressive.

Turn it into an interminable ten-book fantasy and then they?ll biteSo Haleza Grise wrote: Babblers has a complete manuscript; Mark has been shopping around for publishers for a little while but so far has not found any that are keen.
Unfortunately, interminable fantasies are what fantasy readers want. My favourite fantasy author, Lawrence Watt-Evans had a series of light, short (200 p) stand-alone fantasy novels set in a world called Ethshar. Unfortunately his publisher has told him the last one didn?t sell all that well ? big interminable fantasy books are in fashion nowadays. And that means we may never see any more novels about Ethshar
