Sorry, got confused there; I thought you meant the actual Elkaril script, not the emoticon version.

Going well--I've got all the phonetic bits done and am starting on the prefixes and suffixes.

With all that, it's hard to promise revisions of any existing languages. I do hope to write a description of Old Verdurian one day.

The Western languages are polysynthetic.
You should do absolutely all of this. ALL.
<Dudicon> i would but you're too fat to fit in my mouth!!

I try not to say too much about what I'm working on... it increases expectations, and sometimes I find myself promising something for years.

One ongoing project is everything to do with Xurno; the work on the Wede:i family was part of this.

(By the way, I deleted an attempted Eddyjacking.)

Xurno

Post by valinta »

I'm really excited about Xurn?? and everything. For some reason, the Xengi area has caught my interest more than most other Almean regions. On a side note, there is something I have been wondering about Xurno: What do the Xurnese think about the Cuolese, ie. is their conflict merely territorial, or is some of that Axunaic racism still lying about? Has the Revaudo affected views of the Wede:i and their descendants at all? I understand if you haven't worked this out yet, but I though I would give it a shot.

Sorry if I'm wrong here, but I'm not sure whether that's the right way to phrase it. I think the Obenzayet's name for themselves is ?bingkayaz but I don't know whether that could be used adjectivally. And the 3rd person singular present of the copula is sahiz. Obenzayat word order is VSO, and genitives come after the noun. And I don't know whether lavani has the same meaning in the modern Obenzayet, or whether the semantics have changed somewhat. Having said all that, I'm completely unable to say what a better version of the sentence would be; in such things, I feel it best to defer to the Boardlord ;).

Good question. Fortunately for the Cuolese, the racism is social transformation and a couple of religious revivals past. :) In the early Axunaic states, all Wede:i formed a slave class. But since children of Ezichimi were considered full Ezichimi, the class steadily shrank, and had effectively disappeared by imperial times (the epoch of Axunai).

With the rise of Xurno came the abandonment of Meshaism for Endaju?, which viewed all human states (sex, race, status) as contingent, mere steps in the Dance. And this was taken even more seriously by Revaudo, which is very egalitarian in doctrine.

The Xurnese are still inclined to see Xurno as the apex of civilization; they consider Cuoli to be a backward state, though less foreign than (say) Skouras or the Jippirasti states. But this is no longer a racial thing.

So would Xurnese society be a bit like an ideal communist (not corrupted) state?

Not very much; it's not exactly like any terrestrial society. You can get a glimpse here:

http://www.zompist.com/almea.htm#Xurno

but for full details you'll have to wait for the Diary of the Prose Years...

Of course; and I certainly didn't mean to discourage you.

Somehow my post ended up on the wrong thread . . . hmm.

"Youngest Member Award"?

I?d call it after the last teenage emperor of Cadhinor but I can?t find the old board where his name was revealed. I think it would be the Medhroric III Award.

The last emperor of Cadhinor was Ertala, according to the Historical Atlas and the Secret History of Verduria; he was indeed young and ambitious, but not that pleasant a character (and he was defeated and killed himself to boot). Maybe something different...

I might suggest the Prince Velto Award, after the Prince of Verduria in the "present day" of Mark's world. Velto is the younger child of King Alric, who is the son of King Vlaran, and thus directly tied to our Vlaran here. The only objection is that Velto is even younger in the present day--he's not much more than a toddler. Still, one can imagine that he'll grow...

Glenn

Nice to see people interested in Obenzayet... Vlaran, are you really 10 years old? That does make you the youngest member, though I think someone or another started at 12.

So Haleza's comments are good. The sentence should be (according to my grammatical sketch):

Sahiz kuran ariz Ubingkayi?.
is language my Obenzayet-gen.

(L?vani does mean 'tongue', but the word for 'language' is kuran, where k is velarized.)

You're both right. :) Shm Jay has however somehow remembered the teenaged emperor's father, Cadh. Medrorikh III, V. Medric 3e. His son was Melisuertos III / Melis?r, who lost his realm to the Curiyans in 2792.

The marquis Bura expelled the Curiyans in 2917; it was his son Ertala who suffered the ignomious fate Glenn describes, in 2950.

The current kings of Zh?sifo style themselves eloroi rather than ataboi 'emperors', and Verdurian usage is to call Bura and Ertala eloroi too, on the grounds that they were merely local kings, and that the imperial tradition had been broken.
