The Contradictory Feelings Thread
Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread
Good coffee is at its best when it's black and unsweetened.
It also isn't that easy to come by. (I blame Starbucks and Nespresso; that's okay coffee, not good coffee).

When I read this, I knew I'd be posting something similar soon.Ars Lande wrote:After a long hiatus, I'm finally starting a new novel; one that promises to be a large improvement over the fifteen-parallel-plots abomination that was the last one or, rather, attempt at one.
The bad part: why am I so slow? I used to be able to write 2000 words on a bad day, 4000 on a good one.
Now I'm struggling to reach 1000 words a day.
And now I am. Only I can barely write at all. 800 words in two days

Maybe you'll feel better knowing that I found a solution to the issue. It turns out I was telling the story the wrong way: I kept introducing complicated exposition right at the beginning; I realized that the story would work best as a murder mystery, and should be written like one.Anguipes wrote:When I read this, I knew I'd be posting something similar soon.

That gave me an idea for a reworked first chapter, greatly reduced in exposition and a lot less boring to write.
That one was written quickly.

I want to grow facial hair because I can, but my partner doesn't want me to, says he can't stand it. I'd love if he grew some facial hair but he can't and he won't.

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread
He probably won't, though he says he would (probably just exaggeration), and he'd probably be quite mad at me. I think he had a bad experience with an ex with facial hair and he doesn't want to be reminded of it? Something like that.linguoboy wrote:What's he going to do, leave?Viktor77 wrote:I want to grow facial hair because I can, but my partner doesn't want me to, says he can't stand it. Or maybe he just doesn't like beards/moustaches...
Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread
Yes, but I do. I think they are a fine sign of masculine maturity. And therein lies the problem.Drydic Guy wrote:Or maybe he just doesn't like beards/moustaches...

Your husband or boyfriend or w/e does not own you and can't override your decisions on your own body. If he cannot understand that, you're (pl.) gonna have a bad time.

And ignoring the likes/dislikes of your significant other is not usually a good idea...Thry wrote:Your husband or boyfriend or w/e does not own you and can't override your decisions on your own body. If he cannot understand that, you're (pl.) gonna have a bad time.

He'd give in to me if I wanted it badly enough, but that's also not very healthy to just give in to keep the peace.Drydic Guy wrote:And ignoring the likes/dislikes of your significant other is not usually a good idea...Thry wrote:Your husband or boyfriend or w/e does not own you and can't override your decisions on your own body. I guess we still need to work on that one key thing: C-O-M-M-U-N-I-C-A-T-I-O-N. Compromise would be nice too but his idea of compromise is just giving into me.

considering and taking a decision that doesn't match their likes is not ignoring

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread
Come on, guys. It's facial hair. No relationship ever ended over facial hair.
I suggest you compromise and go for permastubble.

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread
Yes relationships have, though I'd rather not use that as evidence.
Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread
Well, maybe some relationships have. But if your SO is willing to break up over facial hair, that's sort of a big red flag. So my point still stands.

you're not going to get past mere *signs* of 'masculine maturity'. the point of 'masculine maturity' is that it means you're ready to produce offspring and no matter how deep you stick your dick in him [incidentally, please don't correct any hasty generalisations i make] that's never going to happen.

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread
Well that's perfectly reasonable. I had a bad experience with an ex once. He had a dick and balls. So because my partner loves me, he had his hacked off.Viktor77 wrote: I think he had a bad experience with an ex with facial hair and he doesn't want to be reminded of it? Something like that.

+ I'm totally over my ex.

wait, wait
is this just you attempting the High Speech, or is, in fact, the problem that your clone does not want you to display signs of/acquire "masculine maturity"?Viktor77 wrote:Yes, but I do. Why not a pilot period? Try it for a month, if he still hates it, then you shave. Who knows--maybe having facial hair won't be as rewarding as you think it will be.Viktor77 wrote:I'll talk to him about it, see if we can compromise without him just giving in to me.
