Conlang Reconstruction Game 2014: we have a forum
Serafín has graciously provided us with a forum. Once you register, his administrative account will place you into either team 1 or team 2, and you'll be able to see the resulting board.

We've done these before, I'm aware, and I think when this last came up a year and a half or so ago I was in the depths of the end of senior year, didn't have the time and broke the chain. Luckily, I've grown since then and have a much greater desire and drive to actually get shit done and see it to its completion. For those of you who haven't done it before, this requires two teams, each of which create a proto-language and a family of daughters, then spin the daughters off to the other team for reconstruction while keeping the proto-language a secret. Borrowings and irregularities can provide additional fun.
I'm thinking we should have at least ten people. We won't start until 2014, but winning isn't really the point of this, so I don't think there's anything wrong with debating and making preliminary sketches (indeed, I have a few sketchpads myself of languages that have never seen the light of day, but could be worked into something usable, and I'm sure a lot of people here could say the same) beforehand. Nor is it imperative that we have everyone on board quickly, and people will certainly be allowed to join later on. For added fun and difficulty, we could make sub-proto-languages to create added realism. We're definitely going to want a time depth closer to Indo-European than to Romance or Slavic, that's for sure. Who's interested?

I took part in the failed one that Dhok mentioned. I would be willing to take part in this if we have clear deadlines for each section, and are a lot more organized in terms of communication. Forums are good but there needs to be chatting to make sure things are getting done and people don't abandon the project.

I was in the last one and I have more free time to commit now. I agree with the idea of deadlines above, I'd like something to stay accountable to.

That sounds really cool! Count me in, if you would.

I have already taken a part in three such games (two of which failed and the remaining one didn't succeed either) and guess what…

Alszo, I have some ideas for a proto-phonology, so you know what to do.

Re: Conlang Reconstruction Game 2014
Great, we have seven people on each team. Here they are, randomly generated:
Team 1 is me, UbiquitousNewt, Vortex, vec, Nort, Click and CatDoom.
Team 2 is Solarious, decemviro, Herr Dunkel, Aino Meilani, KathAveara, 2+3 Clusivity, and Pole.
How do the teams want to do their secretive messaging? Email is good, or a subforum; it's pretty easy to create a free forum, and if we want I can do that, with separate and hidden boards for each team.

Re: Conlang Reconstruction Game 2014
For my group, maybe we can make a couple google docs for phonology, morphology, syntax, and lexicon and exchange gchat/aim/skype info for group discussion and do email discussion for the rest.
Re: Conlang Reconstruction Game 2014
A hidden sub-forum would be interesting, but I'm not opposed to using email.

Re: Conlang Reconstruction Game 2014
also reminder to not make every single language Armenian, as has apparently happened in previous reconstruction games, making them next to impossible

Re: Conlang Reconstruction Game 2014
That's a great point. I think each group should be limited to one or two armenians.
Re: Conlang Reconstruction Game 2014
Edit: Never mind, it's shit. Let me figure out a better solution.

Re: Conlang Reconstruction Game 2014: we have a forum
There's a new forum guys:
http://conrelay2014.prophpbb.com/
Register an account (you don't need to confirm your e-mail), and request to join one of the groups (to see how to do that, just go to the sticky in the Public Plaza). Once approved by me as admin or dhok (for T1 members), you can see your hidden group forum.
Also, where are we creating the conlangs? Akana, as in the last games?
