Guess the Language, anyone?
Re: Guess the Language, anyone?
Is it spoken in Nigeria?
"It will not come by waiting for it. It will not be said, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is.' Rather, the Kingdom of the Father is spread out upon the earth, and men do not see it."

But the river tripped on her by and by, lapping
as though her heart was brook: Why, why, why! Weh, O weh
I'se so silly to be flowing but I no canna stay!

You can tell the same lie a thousand times,
But it never gets any more true,
So close your eyes once more and once more believe
That they all still believe in you.
Just one time.

So close your eyes once more and once more believe
That they all still believe in you.
Just one time.

P'urhépecha?
I did have a bizarrely similar (to the original poster's) accident about four years ago, in which I slipped over a cookie and somehow twisted my ankle so far that it broke

Re: Guess the Language, anyone?
Between you youve just ruled out about perhaps 70% of the languages in Mesoamerica. Isnt it a little cheating to just go by family? And should we perhaps ask each guesser for a rationale for why they guess as they do?
In any case, no and no.

Re: Guess the Language, anyone?
Yeah it can get frustrating when it looks like the guessers aren't so much playing Guess the Language as they are playing Language Twenty Questions.
But in their defense, the original text was awfully, awfully short. Six words in total. Not much to work with.
Also: Seri? (doesn't look an awful lot like Seri, but it looks even less like Totonac-Tepehua, so...)

It's also definitely not Miskito or a related language. Which would leave us with one other language family and it doesn't like much like the Chibchan languages I've seen. But I agree with Xephyr, the original text was awful. Do you have a better one?

Re: Guess the Language, anyone?
True the text was short. I had to pick a small piece so as to not give away the continent through loanwords. Here I'll provide a bit more w. translation.
Loya'aya litayki jlanDios
To declare the word of God,
tikwa tama ashpela
he says, although many
tikwa ulijpa tama ijlta'a (a'i) kipime
have overcome it although it was (not) difficult,
to lingshanuk' (a'i ki)pik'a tokyajla
for example, the people (didn't) want to hear
(eh) litayki.
his word.
Te kajl'kwayaku?
What are we going to say?
Ajlkojle iyank' lulijpa
We are going to say that we have overcome it.
y porque tikwa pe laliwik'ipa
and because, he says, of what we have learned.

Re: Guess the Language, anyone?
Nope! I'm sorry! Maybe I should mention that the jl combination is a phonemic unvoiced l which is kind of characteristic for this language which has an otherwise fairly average looking phoneme inventory.
