Thanks!

In that case, I would prefer to create a daughter language.

I've drawn up the starting points for the two teams. Who's up for creating protolangs? Vidurnaktis is but who else?

If people can tell me their people's migration directions then I can add it to this map:

Is that how we're doing it? Last year people just created the protolang collaboratively, and collaborated on some of the descendants as well.

Yeah, it's less work and it's more fun to work with a sketch with no previous knowledge.

Fair enough, actually. I did end up feeling a lot like I couldn't really help with our protolang's development last year... this way I don't have to. Although I do support allowing collaboration if we want to. Also, could we use the old forums? Pole?

I'll take the mountainous area directly south-east of the T1 homeland.

I’ll take the coast and the islands to the North.

Do I see it correctly that Team 1 is in a more or less moderate/mediterranean climate zone, whereas Team 2 in subtropical/monsoon type?

Hmm... put me a bit north of the protolang, on that peninsula, if you will.

NW or NE? That small archipelago?

I doubt it. Whilst I know barely anything about mapping climates, we are rather northern here. I think T1 is more Temperate Oceanic (Cfb) and T2 is more Mediterranean climate (Csa).

I thought I had posted this question but it seems to have vanished into the bit bucket.

Since I can't see the maps at the moment, are the protolangs in contact with each other?

Well, I was figuring the larger peninsula, but sure, that'll work. :-)

And yeah, Yruisa should be on team 1?

Not as of right now. They're quite the distance but adjacent daughterlangs to the opposite daughterlangs will probably have loanwords.

Oops, sorry!
Team 1, if she's up to the challenge :)

Just to give you a sense of scale, that's how it looks in a projection:

A suggestion from someone who's not actively involved: get the most experienced member of the team to do the proto-language. Someone with some experience will come up with a reasonable sketch that is plausible and covers the bases (and hopefully will have enough delicious possibilities for derivation: kinda-sorta unstable phonologies and morphologies just begging for simplification are good here), while someone without the appropriate experience will make something difficult to derive from. Akana is both a good and a bad model here: Ndak Ta had quirks, irregularities and enough nous to not shit on universals, while Adata was patchy and fairly amateurish a language, with glaring internal inconsistencies.
