Ooh, that sounds awesome (the program, not so much the institute being twats). But, yeah, that seems to be the case for a lot of schools, even in the US, where successful programs get cut because money.
Esch is a teeny-tiny bit boring. But the park is nice. Let me know what part of town you'll be in :D
Right now, it's looking like I'll be living in the Belvaux, but I'll let you know more about that once I get settled down.

Also, I now leave in a week. Holy crap, time's going by quickly.

The fair is like totally a block away from my apartment and I pass through it everyday on my way to school. I can like totally pig out on fair food all October whenever I want, frites, croustillons, lacquements, and on and on. :-D

My bank account finally got opened today! (*insert pom-pom shaking*) Next up is acquiring a phone and then, after that, getting the stuff going on my carte de séjour, namely the medical examination and tuberculosis test. Hopefully I'll have the permit in a few weeks' time, which will be great.

Awesome news! Didn't take as long as they told us it would and hence why we avoided it. :?

After spending a weekend traveling a lot around Belgium and eating out a lot I really got to appreciate the incredible freaking amaziness that is Belgian cuisine. I've enjoyed it since day 1 but OMG is it amazing. The frites, the beer (I'm quite a fan of Leffe, I'm told I have to try a Trappiste beer), the chocolate (our weekly shopping list always includes at least 3 bars of Côte d'Or), the mussels, the boulets (boulet à la liègeoise is to die for with a good side of frites and some incredible Belgian mayo), speculoos spread and cookies, awesome Flemish waterzooi, and the waffles of course which at one point I was eating almost daily. Then there is fair food like croustillons (fried donut balls) and lacquements (flattened waffles covered in syrup) that could send you into a cardiac arrest. I don't know how Belgians aren't all super fat but God damn their food and drinks are amazing. I don't know how I'll ever leave Belgium.

So, I went to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here and successfully submitted my residence permit application yesterday. Hopefully the medical results will be communicated to them very quickly and I'll have an exceptionally shiny and pretty card soon.

The strange thing, to me, was that they did both a TB skin test and a chest X-ray for TB; I only had to do an X-ray for the French permit process, and a number of people at the lab I work in expressed surprise that they did the X-ray.

I'm in a band now - a progressive rock band named Path of Vision. So far, we are preparing for our first rehearsal, and it will take a while until we can present something.

So far, I haven't written Old Albic (or any other conlang) lyrics, but I am planning to do so!

Yay! I found out the Walloon government offers free online language courses in Dutch, German, and English to all residents. Since I'm now a resident I just signed up. I'm going to use it to learn Dutch. :-D

Lesson learned: Christmas markets here are very dangerous and delicious places. I went to one today and they had suitably delicious Bratwurst... but, most of all, they had Kinderpunsch (yes, I know, but I don't like wine). Hadn't had it in about fourteen years, and it still tastes as great as I remember. And it also came with lots of nostalgia.

Good thing I'm getting paid next week...

The whole article looks hastily done and at least partially hastily translated from English to me.
Note that I didn't mark it red - it's more of a usage issue than a question of correctness. In the usage I'm used to, wahr with roles or nouns expresssing the belonging to a certain group is restricted to certain contexts and set phrases.

Das ist auch wahr für manche Artikeln bei den Wikipedia auf Scots. Deswegen habe ich angefangen, die Sprache dieser Artikeln zu bearbeiten.
That's true for some articles on the Scots wikipedia too. That's why I started editing the language of these articles.

If I would think so, I wouldn't have marked that usage. But other native German speakers may disagree.

*1)Or: einer der feststehenden Ausdrücke sein.

What probably happened is that they saw your first and last name, concluded that you're a German, and decided to make life easier for you. See it as a good way to practise your German. ;-)

Yes I suspect it must have been that. I'll write them back in German hehe, but it won't be flawless. :P They've planned us a nice trip though I suspect it'll be over the budget we set so we might have to cut stuff. :(

Is Cracow included? If it's your first time to Poland, you absolutel have to see Cracow!

Yes, it's Krakow to Zakopane to Warsaw to Masuria to Gdansk. Unfortunately we only have a budget of 1 grand so we might have to cut out Warsaw or even Zakopane or Masuria. Though I want to most definitely keep Krakow and Gdansk (the former also because it's the starting point for Auschwitz), and I've always wanted to see Gdansk (though I'm sure it's more beautiful in summer we have no choice). The Masurian lakes woud also be prettier in summer, but everything's cheaper in winter. I want to see Masuria because I read an excellent autobiography from Marion Dönhoff, a former countess in East Prussia, and the way she described the region just made it sound so enticing. Plus I would enjoy some of the WW2 and pre-WW2 history of that region.
