Sorry I didn't say that when you last posted it, though. :P

So on Monday (originally supposed to be today, but then I'd have to hang out at someone else's house and awkwardly be in the background…), me and my Semba* are hanging out and I am way too excited to see his cats again :P ! Last time I saw Chocolate and Jonesy was Halloween :( Maybe I should be more excited to see him, but his cats are too cute :-D

Thanks! It should be fun ^^ Especially since I get to rub in the fact that I'm one of two people Chocolate actually likes  (apparently just me and his dad)

Apparently not :P Which is funny, since the moment I met her she liked me, but he's had her for about two years or something (I forget), and she still doesn't like him. Jonesy was also apparently very skittish when Semba first got him, and when I was first able to meet him I was told that he probly wouldn't like me right away… well guess who was able to get to pet Jonesy in a matter of seconds?! [answer: me obviously] Maybe I just have a way with the cats… [which can't be true, my auntie's cat Gizmo is still a little hard to approach. She'll either run away if you try to pet her, or let you pet her for like, 2 seconds and then scratch and hiss at you]

*gasp* what if I have a way with the wolves too?! That would make my life! :-D

Maybe her cat is just mean.

Nah. She just takes a long, long time to get used to you… kinda like me!

In that case, do you think you come across as distinctly less friendly IRL than you do online? :P

Actually, I haven't, either, and thanks for the correction! :D

Just part cat ;) I would hope lion (not mountain lion), to coincide with my being a Leo :-D

To be fair, I think I do a decent wolf as well as crow. My three favorite animals can I do an above-average imitation of. And cows!

I come across as friendly online? Perish the thought! I shall wreck my rep with this simple phrase: racial bias = good things. (jk…) Anyways, nah. I think I come across just as friendly IRL as online… maybe? I have no idea. People always seem to think I'm innocent and then they soon see how cynical and dark I am, so maybe I'm like a tiger trapped inside a kitten's body.

I think you're a nice guy. Everybody has a dark side, and people are cynical sometimes, but neither of those things has to be that big of a deal. :)

Took long enough, but a paper I'm a co-author on that was submitted for publication before I left the US (almost six months ago!) finally got accepted by the journal. All that's left is to go through one or two proof stages, but... yeah. First journal publication. (I so happy...)

Thanks. The paper's on biological sensing of specific molecules using liquid crystals (similar to the materials you have in most of your electronics displays).

Congratulations!

I submitted a paper to a journal once and had to wait forever to hear back from them as well (I think in my case it was a few years?). It was neither accepted nor rejected because they said they couldn't find a reader. :P

Thanks. And, yeah, that's not fun... fortunately, the wait from submission to acceptance in this case was about 5.5 months, which is a little long, but not overly so for a journal of this flavor.

I finally managed to connect my internet at my new house! (But i'm tired because I had to call about three call centres today to work out how to do it – it turns out either I or the post office lost the letter which had my login details written on it... ugh)

Unfortunately academic journals have quite long processing times. I've been involved in papers with as short as two month publication times and on the other hand in one paper that's still pending after years because of an incredibly rude and uncooperative referee. My last paper was quite quick in getting accepted in maybe three months. It took us, however, two extra months to find all the time to do the required post production after that. Luckily it's now happily out.

By the way, just out of interest, do you happen to have an offprint copy of the paper available vampireshark? It's interesting to take a look at what other people are up to.

I'll probably have one within a few weeks*: the publishers said that they would be getting the first proof to us within the next few days. Incidentally, the article's going to be in an open access journal.

*Incidentally, I also have my copy of the article that we submitted, which I could also send along once I get back home (it's on my personal computer; not my work computer).
