Re: Happy Things Thread
About a week until I go on vacation to central France. At last. Hoping the strikes will have entirely stopped by then, but, with Euro 2016 going on, I sadly don't have much hope about that.

It's always nice to be able to make a friend laugh hard.

More of a passive-agressive thing, but it still made me laugh: fighting the neighbour's shitty music with Mongolian throat singing.

That reminds me of the time my parents were arguing so loud for so long one night that I played the loudest Beijing opera I knew of (on YouTube) continuously to block their voices out. They didn't notice a thing. (I believe it was parts of "Royal Concubine Yang of the Tang Dynasty" or something).

So, in completely random things, I got to visit the Île d'Yeu today. Cute little place.

I got my psych to increase my lithium (but not my carbamazepine) back to where it was before. Hopefully I will start stabilizing now.

Re: Happy Things Thread
I talked for quite a while with my friend Liz yesterday, and amongst other things, she's quite happy being my support system (e.g. who I talk to when I'm suicidal), when previously I was really only assuming that she'd be willing to do it, along with that she feels towards me much of the same way I've felt towards her about us (we're not a couple, even though people have mistaken us for one, but rather are very close friends), such that we can both talk to each other about things that we probably would speak to no one else with, me and me psych aside, and in particular with me towards her, I can rely on her for things I would not rely on anyone else for. So I'm definitely happy about that.
(Okay, I'm not happy anymore.)

I'm getting an article published in a peer-reviewed journal!!! Although it won't appear in print until about a year from now (which is why people are starting not to like ink-and-paper journals anymore).
Re: Happy Things Thread
Congratulations!! Also isn't that true! It takes a ridiculously long time. I don't look forward to that process if I so pursue that path.kodé wrote:I'm getting an article published in a peer-reviewed journal!!! Not sure I can say until it's official official. But it has to do with templatic morphology in a yokuts language...Viktor77 wrote:Congratulations!! Also isn't that true! Re: Happy Things Thread
Ooh, congrats. But, yeah, even an online print can take a while: the one article I have been on and have had published took about six months from submission to appearing online (granted, it was five months to even have the initial response from the journal that published it!), but it's quite a relief and quite a nice feeling when the publication is finalized. Am working on a draft of an article to try to get submitted by the first or second week of September, but who knows how long (or short) the wait will be for an initial response.kodé wrote:Not sure I can say until it's official official. In happy things, my trip to the US was just what I needed. Definitely was nice to be back home for the first time in about a year (and in the States for the first time in nine months), and both the conference I attended and stay at NC State were quite productive. Didn't also hurt that I was able to piggyback the trip with personal vacation, which was also lovely.

I held off on pre-ordering a new book (a translation of a huge Kurdish novel) the moment I heard about it last night because I thought I might be able to get it at a competitive price at the local bookstore former coworkers of mine founded. In fact, it will cost me 49¢ less to buy from them, despite Amazon's 28% discount.
