Pinyin uses <e> for everything from ɘ to ɤ, so there's at least one precedent. Also, <i> for ə isn't that weird, given that's one of the realizations of unstressed <i> in English.Pole, the wrote:That's a tad unintuitive./[…] ɘ […]/ <[…] e […]>

In both of these languages «i» is the higher vowel, though.communistplot wrote:Pinyin uses <e> for everything from ɘ to ɤ, so there's at least one precedent. True that, I could have used <e> for both or even <i> & <y>, but it wouldn't have been aesthetically pleasing.Pole, the wrote: In both of these languages «i» is the higher vowel, though.

Re: Romanization challenge thread
If parenthetical characters follow a letter below, the sequence represents a transcription change from the parenthetical IPA to Basic.
/(b, p) (s, z) k t (f, v)/
/g h y(j) l m/
/n r(ɹ) hl ʃ ə(sv)/
/tl vl vr(vɹ)/
/ᴀ a(e) e(i) o u i(aɪ̯)/
/'tᴀ.rᴀs/
Δäωäc = Täräs, Ältrunyän Goddess of the hunt
/'tᴀ.ruʃ.kᴀ/
Δäωuςϙä = Tärushkä (diminutive thereof and v. to hunt)
/'tᴀ.ruʃ.kan/
Δäωuςϙaφ = Tärushkan (above + yn nounal affix and n. hunter)

I think I got your inventory right?
/m n/ <m n>
/p b t k g/ <p b t k g>
/f v s z ʃ h/ <f v s z x h>
/ɹ l j/ < r l j>
/vl vɹ tl sv hl/ <vl vr tl sv hl>
/ä e i o u aɪ̯/ < a e i o u ai>
I'm not sure why you have those clusters unless they're the only clusters you're allowed within a syllable, but they still aren't separate phonemes.

Re: Romanization challenge thread
I probably should have explained that a single character represents each voiced/voiceless pair. The correlation is as follows: я (b/p), c (s/z), and ѳ (f/v). At one time, δ was a combination of d and t. However, d saw so little use that they eliminated it. One thing English speakers would find strange about Basic, and it's descendant Baikal, is the absence of r-checking due to the rule that ω must be syllable-initial or in a digraph. Thus, words like bard can't exist in either language.
