Neophyte questions, I guess

Questions or discussions about Almea or Verduria-- also the Incatena. Also good for postings in Almean languages.

Neophyte questions, I guess

Post by John Ramirez »

Hello,

I discovered Verduria only a week ago, while I was searched in www.langmaker.com or something like that. I was instantly impressed by Verduria; it is the best contructed world I've known.

I just thought this message board would be the perfect place to ask questions that are troubling me (about Almea) now. Before anything, just note I'm not totally fluent in English (neophyte and brummagem are the most sophisticated words I know), so pardon me if I use bad grammer, spelling, or say something I shouldn't have...

1. In the Almeopedia example entry, it says Flora was once occupied by the ilii. As these beings are so ancient, what do they say about how flaids obtained Flora?
2. I was reading the page about living creatures and I stumbled over the shipomi. What are they?
3. In what forms do the speakers of Elkar?l preserve their history (as their form of writing is very complex?
4. What is the dominant language in Erel?e (as English is in our world)?
5. What is the common form of writing in Erel?e (as Roman in in our world)?
6. Maybe this isn't appropriate, but how can uesti people lack glans (i mean, their organs would be square at the end)?
7. How are ktuvoki and ilii different from out anatomies?
8. Wenn may we expect Axunashin and Xurn?sh?
9. Sorry, but I still don't understand what sound does dh and :dh represent.
10. What kind of musical instruments are there in Erel?e?
11. Are any Almeans sircumcised?
12. What ethnic group are Verdurians part of?
13. Do m?rtani have any hair at all?
14. Are male ktuvoki organs different (as they deliver packets of sperm)?

Thank you for any response you may ggive me, and please don't use very technical terms.

Best regards,
J. Ramirez

Hi, John. I answered some of these questions by e-mail; I'll answer the new ones below.
John Ramirez wrote:1. In the Almeopedia example entry, it says Flora was once occupied by the ilii. As these beings are so ancient, what do they say about how flaids obtained Flora?
Unfortunately we can't yet read the iliu accounts of this, if any. The flaids say that they won the island in a wager with an ogre.
3. In what forms do the speakers of Elkar?l preserve their history (as their form of writing is very complex?
In their writing system... it's not complex to them. (And not that complex overall; it's certainly simpler and more efficient than Chinese, for instance.)
4. What is the dominant language in Erel?e (as English is in our world)?
There's not enough global (or even continental) integration to have such a language. The languages most likely to be learned outside their areas of origin, however, would be Verdurian, Kebreni, Tzhuro, Echendi, and Xurn?sh.
5. What is the common form of writing in Erel?e (as Roman in in our world)?
Same answer, basically; though since two of the languages on the list use derivatives of the Cadhinor alphabet, you could say it has a slight edge.
8. Wenn may we expect Axunashin and Xurn?sh?
I've learned the hard way not to make promises about when things will be finished!
9. Sorry, but I still don't understand what sound does dh and :dh represent.
It's the voiced th in English 'the' (also the d in European Spanish and Modern Greek).
10. What kind of musical instruments are there in Erel?e?
Verdurian ones are listed in the Thematic Dictionary; there are probably some quite alien ones elsewhere on the continent.
12. What ethnic group are Verdurians part of?
Do you mean race? They're part of the Ta?se group, discussed in the Historical Atlas on the "Key" and -4000 maps.
13. Do m?rtani have any hair at all?
So far it seems other Almeans have not cared to come close enough to find out. (Their baldness isn't genetic, however.)

Dear zompist,

Thank you very very much for your answers, I know much more about Verduria now. I am afreid I don't know what e-mail you are talking about :!: I just obtained my e-mail (John.Ram@torhavn.zzn.com) some days ago because my hotmail account was not working. Perhaps someone else asked the questions sometime, but I don't know.

Sincerely,
J. Ramirez

You can hear the sound on the speaking IPA site: http://www.ling.hf.ntnu.no/ipa/full/ipa ... _pulm.html. It's the one that looks like a curved d.
