I was totally expecting that Chuck Norris thing to be an Onion story.

I find the Encyclopedia of Decency, a satirical skewering of the self-proclaimed "decent left," very funny. (Warning: political humour.)

The sci-fi sounds quiz is diverting.

For further SF nerdery, see this archive of stills, a tribute to the lovely ladies of Star Trek TOS. (Someone should really round up stills of all the redshirts they went through, too.)

I got 56 on the sci-fi quiz, mostly by guessing.

MOD EDIT: Link removed, as above. Also, can we maybe hold the religious slurs? Describing Yazidi murderers as "typically retarded" is not on.
Now that's a bit much, given that Hok tagged it with a warning and all. Also, the verbatim quote from the BEAST describes the actions and sentiments behind said actions as "typically retarded", not necessarily the Yazidis themselves.

"The Big Island" is my new favourite toponym.

Everything you know about absinthe is wrong, from Salon.

Sciurine inventiveness: snake perfume.

For Christmas, the BBC has a series of radio plays based on the Gospel of Luke. They're really very good.

O'Reilly sayz (YT) that lesbian gangs are taking over, forcibly converting girls to homosexuality, and packing pink pistols. Zomg.

Yeah, pick on the Lesbian gangs while the general public is blissfully unaware of the real gangs like MS 13.

I had a freshman student who said his life's ambition was to join MS 13. I nearly hit him with a textbook.

I presume by "MS 13" you mean the Sureños? (13 y'see is 'cause the Norteños use N=14th letter...)

I think that they're pretty much only a California thing, and BO was claiming that the lesbian thing is a nationwide burgeoning epidemic.

That, and lesbians. And pink guns. And homosexual indoctrination.

As opposed to just the same ol' same ol' killing other gangbangers and selling drugs. Much more interesting, y'see.

(And hmph, I'm still waiting for my toaster ovens. *mutter*)

The O'Reilly thing is old but always funny.

Definitely not so; there are MS 13 associates in Calgary, for instance.

Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens discuss atheism & theism

A bit of a preaching-to-choir / masturbatory feel to it, but still interesting.

Some of our gay Eastern Europeans here will have more fun if they stay in Eastern Europe: [Globe and Mail, Dec. 28, 23rd annual Travel Hall of Infamy Awards]

The Highland Clearances Award to young Scottish revellers who flock to Eastern Europe on cheap flights for pre-wedding stag parties. They have gained so much notoriety for lifting their kilts in public that many clubs and pubs have banned the Scottish national dress.

"You can't go round the corner," a 23-year-old Pole said, "without seeing a Scot showing off what he has under his kilt while one of his mates photographs him."
