Sorry, it's late enough at night that I'll decipher Elkar?l but not attempt to write it. :) On the whole it's cold in the elcarin lands, because they live in the mountains. They usually live in excavations, which are naturally at around 54? (F.) year-round, a temperature they find quite comfortable. (Sometimes they build houses on the hills, mostly as shelters for working the fields or forests, and these have to be kept heated, which is hard work!)

I assume nq?m is a typo for nqh?m 'pigs'; they do raise some, but they're almost more trouble than they're worth. Pigs are forest and riverbank animals; they're not that suited to a dry, grassy, cold hilltop. Still, the elcari like a little pork for variety; so they buy piglets from humans in the spring, raise them over the summer (largely with grain and some vegetables), and slaughter them in the fall-- it would be very uneconomical to keep them over the winter.
