Well yes, but a blind man on a galloping horse could see that link wasn't complete and just copy and paste it, which takes only slightly more effort than clicking it. Nevermind
A PhD thesis with a discussin of lots of different systems for analysing tone and tonogenesis, and a proposal for a new one. A slightly old paper (80s), so maybe the new proposal is now old-hat, but still interesting and useful.

Yes, it can be stopped."
Sthg's wrong with that Miwok link - I tried opening the webpage and downlaoding it; neitehr work. Safari says it's probably a corrupt file.

Works perfectly for me, opened on Linux with Okular.
EDIT: Actually, it opens but the scanned text is too large and overflows the pages.

Hm, I wonder whether something like del.icio.us would be useful for this thread... Or could neek maybe program something similar as an addition to KneeQuickie?

There's a few things that I'm working on, so don't disparage .
This site http://www.chinese-forums.com/vocabulary/ is quite good. It is a searchable database of vocabulary items from the first 4 levels of the HSK (the standard exam of Chinese proficiency). You can search based on all kinds of criteria: the tone patterns of the words (ie all the words which are third tone followed by first tone), all the words involving a certain character (you can specify further where in the word the character appears, and what tones the other characters are).
