I don't know if this is the most recent map, but I'll take this spot:

Haven't seen Christopher Schröder, Wierdmin, valiums, or Azdusha since they claimed a spot, though.

You can't read that, right? Yes, it says that.

I've been working on the language and drawing what the people may look like.
I'm researching savannas and jungles before I decide on clothing, shelter, groups, etc.

Valiums, you know if you're doing it properly there will be literally hundreds of languages in your area, right? This applies to basically everyone with an area larger than possibly jwt's or torco's island, where you could probably get away with a smaller number. What we consider the norm of one language being spoken across a large area is historically not the norm, essentially. 100-200 years ago, only 20% of the French population spoke French. Britain (and let's say for argument's sake that this is the size of jwt's or torco's island) still has 4 or 5 languages, besides the fairly large dialectal variation in English and the many immigrant languages. As for dialectal variation, (modern) English has an abnormally low amount of it.

Okay, here's a very rough idea for possible tectonic plates for the planet... I'm not entirely sure if this would even work out... Anyway, red is a rift area, green is where two plates slide past each other, and purple is where two places collide more or less head on. Volcanoes will most likely be found on the land side of the water based collision areas, all will have earthquakes. The blue arrows show the rough movement of the plates. (The plate on the south pole/colonization continent is the reference plate.)

As for the languages, who has the time to make 100s of languages, most of which will probably only be spoken by a couple thousand people? And that isn't even taking into account time moving forward, where some of those languages will be replaced with other languages, maybe only leaving behind a couple of loanwords. It is a good idea to keep it in mind, though...

Sorry I haven't been around; I've been busy with Thanksgiving 'n' such. I don't have much done, but I'm sure I can complete come stuff. This is probably going to be my most in-depth conlang to date, since I have motivation to complete it, so I'll just be a bit. Is there a deadline? Not really? A time where you generally want us to be done?

Also, Ebba, go ahead and read my stuff, decide how a split should happen.

Unfortunately, I can't get anything done this weekend because of my boyfriend's surprise visit. xD I'll be back on schedule after the weekend though, and Lukas, I'd like to ask you to take it a little easier - not everyone has the time to work at your pace. ;)

I'm not ready yet by a longshot, but will probably be regarding all but the protolang by the end of the weekend; I'm not in a linguistics mood

Then use common sense. I just looked, by the way, you should be able to find obsidian. Your group is near a fault line which is able to produce volcanoes.

Since all the maps posted to date have been relatively unconnected, here is a .psp of the planet so far as I could gather. I believe GIMP can open it, since that's what I saved it in. It's not really done yet, but it has the basics.

On the map I'd like to claim the coastal area area between Cockroach, Azdusha, and Absolem. I should have the basics of my people's protolang, culture, and body type done in a few days. :)

Well, I guess that means I can use my plans for future langs right now, but I'm probably not going to make a hundred languages. I had no idea such a spot would have had upwards of even ten languages (including dialects and the like), or something like that.

But I have to wonder if anyone is going to get anywhere if just doing the protos will take so long....

...hundreds of languages?!?!

Sure the planet will have hundreds, thousands, millions of languages even, but it's not like we can document [create, describe, focus on] each and every one of them: similarly, there's going to be thousands of villages, billions of farms, and gazzillions of people, but we're not going to get to know each and every one of them; we're starting from a very low level of detail, but hey, that's normal.

Just do the languages for the cultures you want to focus on for now. You gotta finish Spanish before you start worrying about Aragonese :D

Amuere, if you're going to take the green part just above me, just letting you know that my people migrated south from there, and there's probably some related languages there. What you do with them is up to you though.
