Verdurian names
So I saw that my real first name is an Elenicoi name, which is Timoďeo.
So if I understand the nom, pirei and ženata correctly:
Timoďeo Darinei Sokol would be a valid Verdurian name?

Re: Verdurian names
Bellman. I guessed at the family name - looked up "bell" in the Verdurian dictionary, and noticed that the other "occupations" had lots of -om, so I added that.

Ďanël Ihanei Ihaney. I quite like it.

Re: Verdurian names
How'd you patronymize Ingolf? If – according to the English-Verdurian dictionary – Christian is Eleďe as a noun, can that be used as a name as well? My last name would be Bulondom, anyhow.

I think my name would be Pondašo Pondašei Ven..maybe Veney.
Re: Verdurian names
I worked out a bunch of Germanic names, but of course they're on Almeopedia. Till it's back up, the best thing to do for them is look at the closest Verdurian name elements.
As for the name 'Christian', Eleďe could be used in a pinch, but it's not actually used that way in Eretald. Perhaps Iceleď ('love Eleď') or Řisto (= 'Christopher')?

Re: Verdurian names
Ihano Ďumilei Banom. (Translated my father's name in order to avoid a second obviously Terran element.)

Iosif Iosifei Etaldey
My family name actually refers to uncultivated land, but I couldn't find a way to express that, so I went with "plain", which is at least not necessarily cultivated. I'm sure we've done this before but I can't remember what I came up with then.

Re: Verdurian names
My surname is originally a place name, but it's so heavily disguised by sound change and myriad variant spellings that I decided to translate it "naively" and smush the pieces together.

I suppose upon going back to the ancient Latin form of my name, Jay << Gaius (the jay bird = chatterer), I could be Šm.Thantantos
tatatir to chatter < *thantantir [verb], *thantanta [noun]?

Holy crap, I didn't even realize until now that the "Shm" in "Shm Jay" was the abbreviation for šriftom.Shm Jay wrote:I suppose upon going back to the ancient Latin form of my name, Jay << Gaius (the jay bird = chatterer), I could be Šm.Thantantos

Iacovo Mëranac Bambuley*
*Bambuley is derived from BANOS 'road' and buyeley 'town'
I translated my middle name, Robert, meaning 'bright fire', as Mëranac, the god of fire.
Off-topic, If I lived in the day of Cuzei, I would name myself, Esāsias Ogonasame Banago.
I think I translated Ya'qov correctly into Cuezi.
EDIT: Iacovo Claibrac Bambuley

Re: Verdurian names
From what I could gather my name is Stefanei Tomaei Etaldey.
My name means son of Stephen, so I went with what I thought was that, and I couldn't find park so I went with plain. How'd I do?
EDIT: So then Stefano Tomaei Etaldey.

The world is made of many ideas,
The hopes and dreams of the weak and wondrous.
They meld and twist from what they were,
And give us the mess surrounding us.

Re: Verdurian names
That's a pretty free translation. "Robert" derives from a compound of hrod "fame" and ber(a)ht "bright". What about reversing the elements and getting "Claibrac"?Arzena wrote:I translated my middle name, Robert, meaning 'bright fire', as Mëranac, the god of fire.
Re: Verdurian names
In fact that's precisely the equivalent I came up with here:linguoboy wrote:"Robert" derives from a compound of hrod "fame" and ber(a)ht "bright". What about reversing the elements and getting "Claibrac"?

BTW, Silent, you really can't use a genitive as a first name in Verdurian; Stefano would be the closest approximation. (Could be Stefaney if it's originally a family name. But using surnames as given names is not a Verdurian custom.)
Re: Verdurian names
i also independently arrived at Claibrac, it would seem
