Here an article describing the scholarly consensus about Greenberg's African phula. Unfortunately, while it says that there is morphological evidence for Niger-Congo, it doesn't say exactly what the evidence is. This is something I often encounter with historical Africanist linguistics, they state that there is ample evidence that 2 languages are related or that they are not related, but don't discuss the evidence itself.
