Your phonology is interesting but there are a couple of things about it that are odd and uncommon in natlangs, one of which is the presence of just a single nasal phoneme /m/. Very few natlangs have the consonant /m/ but lack /n/. Also it is odd that /b/ devoices but that /t/ and /k/ voice at the end of unconjugated verbs. If you want to make your language have a more naturalistic phonology, perhaps you could add the consonant /n/ and get rid of the devoicing of /b/.Shrdlu wrote:Taking a break from my main project and experimenting around abit.

I don't really know if I posted here anymore, so here goes:
/t d k ʔ/
/s z ʃ ʒ x/
/m r n/
/a aː ɛ ɛː i iː ɔ ɔː u uː ɞ ɞː/
/ɒy ui uʌ ɥa jɞ/
/uʉɞ ɑɨɞ eʉɑ/
But, OTOH has:
[b̥ t d k kʲ q ʔ]
[s z ʃ ʒ ʂ ʐ ç x χ h]
[m r n ɽ ɳ]
[a ɑ ɒ aː äː ɐː e ɛ ɛː ŭ u u̟ uː wː i i̩ ɪ iː jː i̟ː yː ɔ̆ ɔ ʌ ɔː ɨ ʉ ɞ͍ ə ɜ ɞ͍ː ɞː]
Allophony's a bitch. Stress rules are far more shitty
Edit: The allophones aren't far off from the phonemes, though.

Checking my German:

Re: Post your conlang's phonology
Old Basque lacked /m/ but had /n/, and as far as I know it was the only nasal it had, so I can't see why I couldn't do the opposite... obviously more wackoed.Maoti wrote: Your phonology is interesting but there are a couple of things about it that are odd and uncommon in natlangs, one of which is the presence of just a single nasal phoneme /m/. edit: everything with /ą/ is of course also an nasal.
We'll see. Right now I try to expand on the vowel system(which is abit out-of-date in the old post, because I have added an difference between stressed and low tone vowels. Link)Maoti wrote: Also it is odd that /b/ devoices but that /t/ and /k/ voice at the end of unconjugated verbs. If I stop posting out of the blue it probably is because my computer and the board won't cooperate and let me log in.!

Re: Post your conlang's phonology
I have eventually decided to make my language have a /p/ gap rather than a /b/ gap, so that its phonology is more natural. So this is its finalized phonology:
Consonants:
Plosive: /b t d k g q ɢ/
Fricative: /s h/
Nasal: /m n ŋ ɴ/
Approximant: /l ʁ̞/
Vowels: /i a u/
Allophony:
/i/ and /u/ lower to [e] and [o] respectively when occurring before a uvular consonant, and this is shown in the orthography.
Syllable structure is (C)VC. Uvular consonants do not occur word-initially.

Re: Post your conlang's phonology
Are you from Denmark? I always thought stød was very interesting, but quite hard to recognize. Sometimes I'm convinced the only way Danes can distinguish between stød and non-stød words (especially monosyllabic) is by context. Its too ambiguous otherwise...Bristel wrote:That's one feature that I can't distinguish in my speech.
