You also have to know about metal is that it has variety.
Metal is as diverse, or even more diverse than pop, rap or classical music.
It's like equalling Mikael Gabriel with Lady Gaga or Madonna, equalling Iron Maiden with Raubtier, or Cradle of Filth with Rammstein.
Metal has diversity, and metalheads have their specific niche they like. My preference lies with industrial, maybe some black or death metal, although I wander off into folkmetal from time to time.

a thousand times yes; there's more kind of metal than metalheads... you guys are like troskists*Metal has diversity, and metalheads have their specific niche they like.
*[troskists, by the way, are very special: every troskists espouses his own sort of trostkism which has nothing to do with the rest of trostkism except it claims to follow trostky]
edit: how the fuck do you spell trostkism ?

I can, if you'd like, name like 40-50 metal genres off the top of my head, if you'd like.

Would you not agree, though, that runes and the iron cross occur rather iconically among neo-Nazis though? They occur pervasively among the far right (especially the Germanic sections of it) and almost never among non-fascistic political currents. I would say that Motörhead is using fascistic imagery even if they are not intentionally advocating fascism.Ulan wrote:So this is nazi? ...
And motorhead uses the iron cross, so simply using it means they are brownshirts?

oh, brother, don't please. most of my friends growing up were metalheads -I'd be one myself, if I wanted to dress and talk the part, and listen to a shitload of music- and I just can't bring myself to care about these new genres you kids came up with. Gimme some maiden, gimme some metallica, gimme some black sabbath, gimme some motherfuckin music! put two metalheads in a room with an album and they'll talk endlessly about whether its progressive metal or death metal or doom metal or... blergh.Elector Dark wrote:I can, if you'd like, name like 40-50 metal genres off the top of my head, if you'd like.

Well which came first runes or the third reich? Who cares what icons that have been associated with the Nazi regime or ideology, by acknowledging them as symbols of hate you give them power. Also "not intentionally advocating"... So they are advocating national socialism by simply including the cross? You have left me dumbfounded by that logic -- does any architect that makes a building plan similar to such runes must mean they <3 the einsatsgruppen?

Hey, you don't need two metalheads in a room to get that. I get that all the time with my just my single metal-obsessed brother. And I'm with you: I ust want the music; not a lengthy discussion on its deconstruction. Problem also gets into the line between metal and rock being very, very blurry: things I'd think of as rock are things others would call metal and vice-versa. For example, at one music store I went to, Rammstein was grouped into the "rock" category whereas, at another one, they were in their "metal" section.Torco wrote:oh, brother, don't please. most of my friends growing up were metalheads -I'd be one myself, if I wanted to dress and talk the part, and listen to a shitload of music- and I just can't bring myself to care about these new genres you kids came up with. Metal-wise, though, I'm not much of an Iron Maiden fan. The big (recent) bands I like are Nightwish, Volbeat, and Lacuna Coil. (All from non-Anglophone countries, too!)

The few Rammstein songs that I have heard, at least, don't sound very metal to me for what it's worth.vampireshark wrote:For example, at one music store I went to, Rammstein was grouped into the "rock" category whereas, at another one, they were in their "metal" section.

I'd say that each of those genres is pretty well defined (except for Redneck metal, for which I can only find Redneck Remedy), having groups that play it and stuff...AK-92 wrote:...the fuck? How excactly does it differ from other non-black metal genres?Elector Dark wrote: Unblack Metal

As for Unblack, it is essentially a slightly faster form of black metal with excessive christian lyrical themes. Nothing to do with being not-black metal. Try "Whitechapel" as an example.

Vedic metal does exist.Ulan wrote:If its full of swastikas, it must mean be some hindu or buddhist bandAK-92 wrote: So iron crosses and runic script= fascist or nationalist band?

Anyway, runes are Viking letters. Nazis only used a few specific runes in specific contexts. Runes have as much to do with Nazis as to do with Tolkien's dwarves.
Lastly, following on from vampireshark's mention of Nightwish, I give a song appropriate to the thread title.

Re: What are you listening to? -- Non-English Edition
They're the main industrial metal band out there. You must've listened to "Liese" and "Ein Lied" for them to not sound metal...Jabechasqvi wrote:The few Rammstein songs that I have heard, at least, don't sound very metal to me for what it's worth.vampireshark wrote:For example, at one music store I went to, Rammstein was grouped into the "rock" category whereas, at another one, they were in their "metal" section.
This is Rammstein at their finest:
Rammstein - LIFAD
Rammstein - Ich Tu Dir Weh
Rammstein - Waidmanns Heil
Rammstein - Donaukinder
Or practically almost every song from the albums Mutter, LIFAD, Seemann, Reise Reise, Mutter, Sehnsucht, Herzeleid and Rosenrot (a witty fan will see what I've done here)

Was that hindi? I kinda feel bad at laughing at so hard about how that sounds when growledjmcd wrote: Vedic metal does exist.

oh, I'm quite okay with deconstructing music... just as long as its in meaningful terms, this 'black darkened death industrial fusion metal' bullshit doesn't mean anything !I ust want the music; not a lengthy discussion on its deconstruction
