Questions or discussions about Almea or Verduria-- also the Incatena. Also good for postings in Almean languages.

At Long Last...

Post by Whimemsz »

I decided to finally attempt a translation into an Almean language...in this case, Isma?n. I'd appreciate any assistance for improvement! (BTW, yes, I know the pasage is...umm...odd. Try to get past that :) )

"3 little pigs lived in a forest. One built a house of straw, one built a house of sticks, and one built a house of bricks. But then a wolf came and ate them. Then he was happy and full."

Zin eskusu pys eliryn ? en syłvn. En eskuse ?uri en dome azi esturn, en eskuse ?uri en dome azi bastn, r en eskuse ?uri en dome azi ladriln. Pruse en ?rile estandi r ize?te r creji se eskusu. Si fu lreje r fude.

I salute you, sah! This is an achivement beyond the scope of my ability to congratulate you on, as I know no Isma?n, except the frase: Se sazi e sic lre ah mrsyn which I tend to scream out of my sleep... I'm a Gent, I'm a Gent, I'm a Gent ...

I don't want to appear annoying or pushy...but...

I'm just wondering how I did.

(Sorry to bump the thread like this... :? )

Actually, here's the problem Whim: there are none. No major ones, perhaps some quibbles but nothing majorly wrong. I only have one problem, and that's really with the last sentence... I'm just not sure if < fude > is the right term, but I'm not sure...

It looks good to me too. One spelling error: 'forest (dat.)' should be silvn not sylvn. Another problem is really with the grammar: I never explained that the -d- in infinitives like estandn is epenthetic, like the one that appears in datives. That is, the verb root is estan-, and if you add the infinitive -n, instead of trying to say -nn you say -ndn. So 'came (3s)' is estani.

Since it seems Whimemsz has been proven a good Isma?n translator :D , I would like to offer a translation of this passage in Kebreni. I hope nobody considers this rude, but I have seen people do this in other Almean translation threads, so I guess it's accepted if the criticism is finished.

Dam neh'atih zura lezu. Gemeh' tusa mosuva keda, kureh' tusa leisuta keda, eh'c dameh' tusa z'imasun keda. Bada mabu luahte buda thaza. Bada mabu katte zaru.

This is my first Almean translation, so it is probably full of mistakes, but I have decided to take a chance and post it. I couldn't find Kebreni words for "pig," "straw," and "wolf," so I used "man," "hair," and "dog," respectively. If anybody wants to know why, I have no idea why I chose "hair."

I hope everybody who wants to enjoys picking apart my first try at learning an Almean language

Don't egg me, but speaking of translations, it'd be fun to put a bluegrass song into Verdurian as a parody about Verminians....

No, in what Verdurians' idea of the Viminian dialect is.
